The Cotton Advisory Committee (CAB) under the leadership of the Ministry will publish the cotton output data this year at the recent meeting.

According to official sources, the first estimate was based on the planting area of 1150-1160 hectares, and by the end of September, the planting area has expanded.

According to sources, during the autumn harvest monsoon season, the main cotton growing countries did not have enough rain.

However, at the end of September, the rainfall situation in Gujarat improved and the planting area expanded.

At the last meeting in August, CAB estimated cotton production increased by 9% to 35 million 500 thousand bales during the 2011-12 cotton year (from October).

The total supply, including 500 thousand packages of imports and 4 million 750 thousand packages at the beginning of the year, is expected to reach 40 million 750 thousand packages, compared with the total demand of 35 million 100 thousand packages.

Although the expected output is high, the export forecast is maintained at 7 million bales.

So far, India has exported about 13 million bales of cotton.

However, as domestic prices rose, imports began in June, -7.

So far, the total number of import contracts has reached 100-120 bales.

Due to severe drought in main cotton growing areas in Western India, the last meeting of CAB failed to estimate cotton production in 2012-13 years (October -9 months).

After that, the cotton planting area may be reduced to 11 million 30 thousand hectares.

Cotton consumption in the annual cotton mill is very low at present, falling to about 21 million 700 thousand bales, compared with 22 million 100 thousand last year.
