A simple and effective technology to improve the energy density of carbon materials, but also to promote its other applications in environmental remediation. Renewable and environmentally friendly carbon electrode materials based on biomass have the advantages of fast ion transport, high adsorption and excellent chemical stability for high-performance energy storage devices. However, so far, it is still a great challenge to intelligently construct carbon materials for efficient biomass transfer to meet the requirements of high energy density.

Yang Weiqing of Southwest Jiaotong University published "hierarchically divacancy defect building dual activated porous carbon fibers for high performance energy storage" in adv. function. Mater Using fast growing and large-scale growing hemp as raw materials, a highly interconnected three-dimensional double activated porous carbon fiber (DACF) was designed by pre embedding KOH and CO2 molecules into the biomass materials and utilizing the double vacancy defect effect.

In this way, a large number of carbon vacancy sites in kocc-h can be constructed by the method of preemptive reaction with many carbon vacancy sites. Therefore, this unique anti bias structure can provide high SSA and appropriate pore size distribution for high performance energy storage devices. As expected, the DACF based pretreated supercapacitor provides both a high power density of 875 w kg1 and a high energy density of 61.3 wh kg1. We believe that this simple and effective strategy can provide a useful reference for the development of other porous carbon materials, and further promote their application in biological systems and catalysis.
